That was the question Deb McDonald, Risk Management Coordinator – Port Stephens Council, nailed to win the 2015 Affiliated FM Client Risk Management Scholarship.
Affiliated FM, underwriters of our Property Mutual scheme, offer an opportunity of a lifetime each year to one of their clients to learn more property loss prevention. The scholarship prize recently saw Deb visit Boston, USA, and the hands-on environment of parent company FM Global’s unique training facility SimZone.
It’s here that she was immersed in learning that simulates property hazards. Combined with instructor-led training by some of the most talented and respected engineers in the world, this unique environment provided her with the knowledge and critical-thinking skills to identify and manage risk through experiencing real-world scenarios.
“I applied for the scholarship because it sounded like an amazing opportunity and we’re fairly proactive in our management of risk at Port Stephens,” Deb said after returning from Boston. “Nothing I could have done to promote risk management at Council was as effective as winning. I’m hoping the scholarship will cement my standing as a risk management professional and create ongoing awareness and understanding of the discipline.”
Congratulations to Deb on a job well done.
