AFM Scholarship Award – Naamon Eurell – Statewide Mutual, Andrew Mason – Wagga Wagga City Council & Tony Cavka – AFM
Andrew Mason from Wagga Wagga City Council was announced as the 2018 scholarship winner at the Statewide Mutual Risk Management Conference on Thursday 30th August at the Hyatt Regency.
Andrew’s submission provided a detailed summary of how Wagga Wagga City Council have endeavored to make their organisation more resilient.
In 2010, the Wagga Wagga region experienced a devastating flood whereby several of the Council’s largest buildings were exposed to the flood waters. Following these floods, Council implemented a multi-faceted, permanent solution which would ensure their assets are protected from flood water in a future event.
This involved installation of various physical flood protection items such as flood gates, pumping stations and a new levee. Wagga Wagga City Council has chosen to be resilient and future proof their property from flooding; which aligns with AFM risk management philosophy. A big congratulations to Andrew and the team.
